Dress Code
Our goal is to maintain a professional training environment while ensuring students can safely and effectively participate in both classroom and skills-based instruction. Dress standards may vary depending on the type of course being attended.
General Expectations (All Classes)
Regardless of course type, all students are expected to:

Wear clean, serviceable clothing

Maintain a professional appearance

Dress in a manner that does not distract from instruction

Wear clothing that allows for safe movement and participation
Clothing with offensive language, imagery, or political messaging is not permitted.
Classroom-Based Training
For classroom-focused courses, students may attend in department uniform or business casual attire.
Department Uniform (If Authorized by Agency)

Standard duty uniform or approved training uniform
-
Boots or duty shoes that are clean and in good condition
-
External carriers and equipment are permitted unless otherwise directed by instructors

Business Casual Attire (Approved Examples)
Acceptable:​

Collared shirts (polo shirts or button-down shirts)
-
Plain or agency-branded t-shirts (if professional in appearance)
-
Slacks, khakis, or clean, non-ripped jeans.

Shorts will not be permitted.

Closed-toe shoes (athletic shoes or casual dress shoes)
Not Acceptable:
-
Tank tops, sleeveless shirts, spaghetti strap shirts, halter tops
-
Clothing with offensive, obscene, or inflammatory graphics
-
Excessively torn, distressed, or dirty clothing
-
Flip-flops, sandals, or open-toe shoes

Skills-Based & Practical Training Classes
Skills-based courses require attire that supports movement, physical activity, and safety. A more relaxed dress code is permitted for these classes.

Clothing must allow full range of motion

Closed-toe footwear is mandatory

Clothing should be suitable for kneeling, groundwork, and repeated movement

Approved Attire Skills-Based Training

Department Duty Uniform (If authorized by agency)

Athletic or training pants, BDU-style pants, or durable jeans
-
T-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, or sweatshirts suitable for physical activity
-
Duty belt or training belt (as applicable to course)
-
Outer vest (as applicable to course)
-
Athletic shoes, training shoes, or duty boots appropriate for the activity

Approved Attire for Defensive Tactics and Open Mat Sessions

Athletic wear or training pants, BDU-style pants, or durable jeans
-
T-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, or sweatshirts suitable for physical activity

Jui-Jitsu style Gi
-
Bare feet, sock feet, and wrestling shoes are allowed on the mat.

Flip flops or slides may be worn during breaks for Defensive Tactics and Open Mat sessions.
-
Boots and other footwear are prohibited.​

Loose or dangling accessories that may create a safety hazard

Clothing that restricts movement or creates an undue risk of injury
