Course Description
This course takes place over 5 days (Monday Oct. 26th through Friday Oct. 30th). The class is 44 hours long with working lunches each day, lunch is not provided.
Instructor Development is a Missouri POST-approved course designed to meet the instructional training requirements for individuals seeking licensing as a Generalist Instructor or Specialist Instructor for basic law enforcement academy training centers.
The course prepares participants for the responsibilities of serving as a law enforcement instructor by addressing the role and authority of the instructor, principles of adult learning, instructional methods, public speaking, source document development, lesson plan construction, legal considerations in training, effective use of training aids, test construction, and instructor evaluation.
Participants will also apply these concepts through a practical teaching exercise in which they develop instructional materials, prepare a lesson plan, deliver a classroom presentation, incorporate training aids, and evaluate another student presentation using the POST Instructor Evaluation Form.
The course is designed to give future academy instructors both the instructional foundation and practical experience necessary to organize, deliver, and evaluate effective law enforcement training in a professional academy environment.
