Course Description

Prerequisite: Taser User Certification or proof of certification/recertification within last 13 months.

The Taser Use Recertification course provides detention officers and sworn law enforcement personnel with the opportunity to refresh and maintain their proficiency in the safe, effective, and legally defensible use of the X26P Taser (No other platform in this class) as a less-lethal use-of-force option. This course ensures officers remain current in deployment techniques, target considerations, and operational decision-making, reinforcing confidence and skill for real-world law enforcement encounters.

The course begins with a classroom review of Taser system components, operational principles, and deployment best practices. Officers revisit essential concepts including target zones, safe handling, device limitations, and scenario-based decision-making. This review ensures that participants have a strong understanding of both the technical and practical aspects of Taser use before transitioning to hands-on skill application.

Following the classroom portion, officers participate in scenario-based skill development exercises designed to simulate situations commonly encountered in the field. These controlled scenarios allow officers to practice accuracy, proper deployment technique, and tactical decision-making under realistic conditions.

Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on integrating Taser deployment with situational awareness, maintaining officer and bystander safety, and applying less-lethal options effectively while reducing the risk of injury. Officers also practice transitioning between deployment, control techniques, and other operational considerations to maintain control of encounters safely and efficiently.
